Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Masjid Wala (the website and app) collects, why, and who else sees it. We collect as little as we can.

Visitors: prayer times and your location

  • Your location is used only if you allow it in your browser, or if you type a city.
  • Your coordinates are rounded to about 100 metres and sent to our server only to calculate prayer times. We do not store them.
  • To calculate the times and show your area name, the rounded location is passed to AlAdhan (prayer times) and OpenStreetMap Nominatim (place name).
  • Your chosen location is saved only in your own browser, so you don't have to set it again. You can clear it by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Masjid admins and users who log in

  • To log in we use your email address and email you a one-time code (OTP) from our no-reply address.
  • When you sign up we keep your name, email and the masjid you asked to join, and email that masjid's admins (or our team, for a new masjid) so they can approve it. Your location is only used in your browser to list nearby masjids first; it is not stored.
  • We keep your name, email address, the masjids you belong to and your role, so we can show the right masjid pages.
  • Content you upload (images, videos, announcements) and the times you set are shown on your masjid's pages and screens.

Cookies and data on your device

  • A session cookie keeps you logged in while you use the site.
  • "Remember me" cookies keep you logged in on this device. They are signed so they cannot be changed, and are removed when you log out.
  • A language cookie remembers the language you chose (English, Urdu, Arabic or Malay).
  • The Android app stores your login on your phone so it can reopen the site signed in.

What we don't do

  • No advertising, and we don't sell or rent your data.
  • No analytics or tracking services.
  • We don't look up your location from your IP address.

Security and your choices

  • Passwords and keys are kept out of our code, connections to our services use HTTPS, and access to masjid data depends on your role.
  • You can log out at any time, clear your saved location, or ask your masjid administrator to remove you from a masjid.
  • We will update this page when anything here changes.
